Media Statement: Round 18 of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Negotiations, 15 – 25 July 2013, Kota Kinabalu

  • The 18th Round of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Negotiations will be held from 15 – 25 July 2013 in Sutera Harbour Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.

  • Negotiators from 11 TPP member countries will convene with the objective of meeting the goals set by the TPP Leaders to complete negotiations by the end of the year.

  • As in previous rounds, a dedicated half-day programme for stakeholders has been arranged on 20 July 2013. The objective of the programme is to allow stakeholders to present their views and concerns. Since registration was open two weeks ago on the MITI website, more than 180 stakeholders, including 51 from Malaysia representing different interest groups have registered for this session.

  • At the end of the stakeholder programme, the Chief Negotiators of all TPP countries will brief the stakeholders on the status of negotiations as well as entertain questions relevant to the area of negotiations.

  • A Media Conference has been scheduled on 25 July 2013 from 3.00 – 4.00pm.

  • The 18th round will be the first time Japan will be participating in the negotiations.

  • The TPP is an on-going plurilateral negotiations involving Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, United States and Vietnam.
